Recently Ann Coulter has made the headlines again. She made a joke, in poor taste, about the Grey' Anatomy star Isaiah Washington controversy in which she referred to Democratic Presidential candidate John Edwards as a 'faggot'. For the record, I am not a fan of Coulter. I feel that she is an elitist, overly arrogant, and is continually casting a 'hateful' cloud over conservatives such as myself. While I agree with much of her positions, I cannot condone her tactless ways of communicating those positions. You could be 'controversial' and make your point without being a hateful elitist...see Glenn Beck and Sean Hannity.
HOWEVER, the hypocrisy of the news media is astounding. Naturally they are condemning Coulter for her slur in reference to Edwards. Recently the news media condemned her for last book in which she said about protesting Iraq war widows, "she had never seen broads enjoying their husband's death so much".
Both statements inappropriate, by me - BUT, the silence on her alter-ego Bill Maher is appalling. Bill hosts the HBO show Real Time with Bill Maher show, where he makes remarks and statements that make some of Ann Coulters words seem trivial. Recently Bill Maher said this:
So, Bill Maher to a national audience can celebrate the right for people to wish for Dick Cheney's assassination, but Ann Coulter gets fried for using and inappropriate slur to an audience of a few thousand people?? Where was this clip on CNN, CBS, ABCNEWS and other mainstream media outlets? Why can Bill Maher make repulsive, outlandish remarks filled with hate and get a pass?
Ann Coulter was wrong, but was even more wrong is the Hypocrisy in the reporting and portrayal that only conservatives say hateful things.
Why Does Robert Byrd a former member of the Ku Klux Klan not have to resign his leadership post in the Democratic party, but Trent Lott does for complimenting Strom Thurman on his 100th birthday? Isn't there a double standard? Hypocrisy at it's finest!
