God only makes a few people who can handle Middle School aged boys. For some reason, I really enjoy being around them. Don't get me wrong...many, many, many times I want to hang them by their underwear to the cabin, but over all - I like being around them. Here are my 5 reasons:
1. I can still physically destroy them and they know it. The 250 pound Senior Middle linebacker is a real challenge these days.
2. They have raw energy and enthusiasm. They will try anything as along as there is a treat on the other side.
3. They are still teachable.
4. Their potential is unlimited - they just need the right mentor.
5. They are not self obsessed yet. I think there was only 7 showers taken last week, 5 were taken by ME! A dip in the pool is plenty for them. On the other hand many of the High School boys spend 12 hours fixing their curly perms in the morning.
Our Theme was awesome: Revolution...Way to go Gary and Colin. here is a video of one of our theme songs.
There is nothing more satisfying than seeing young kids filled with tears because God's Word has cut to their heart. Testimony after Testimony went like this:
"I want to lead my father to Christ"
"I want to see my friends get saved this year"
"I want to be a leader, not a follower"
"God Saved Me this week" AMEN!
All the frustration of the ministry is wiped away for a moment and you say to yourself and to our AWESOME GOD: "It is truly worth it all" May God speak to my heart as he did our Indian Rocks student this week.
