Recently one of the nation’s fastest growing churches, Without Walls International, opened its doors and its pulpit to the legendary King of Strip Clubs in Tampa, Joe Redner. The church is famous for trying to reach the unreached and the seemingly unreachable, for that I applaud them. For giving air time to anti-Christian, adult entertainment leaders I say, "What are you smoking?" I am all for reaching Joe Redner, I'm just not for Joe Redner reaching the people in my church pews. I'm all for the church being a hospital (as Pastor Randy White reminds us for the 300 millionth time that the church is not for saints, but for sinners), but I don't want AIDS patients giving blood transfusions. Contrary to Talk Radio's opinion, everyone doesn't deserve equal time to express themselves. Here are some of the less than memorable quotes from Redner's speech:
"I believe in a lot of things that are in the Bible," Redner said, like thou shall not kill and treat others the way you want to be treated. "I just don't believe it was divinely inspired."
"I have come to the conclusion that the loving God that is spoken of in the Bible does not exist," he said. "I would hold my God to a higher standard."
Randy White, Pastor/Founder of the Without Walls Church International said,
"I submit to them that we have forgotten that church is a hospital," White said."It's not a museum for the saints."In regards to the 'hospital' clichĂ© - Since WHEN do the patients begin to set the agenda? What happened to the doctors at this ‘hospital’?
Should John Maxwell now schedule Hugh Heffner to be at his next leadership conference? Jesus ministered to the Women at the Well, but she didn’t teach the disciples!
I believe the church needs many doors for people to come in. I also believe the church needs walls to separate itself from what Jesus called unrighteousness.
